Camsurf originally started as something other than a Chatroulette type site in October of 2006 and has changed over time. It became a Chatroulette alternative somewhere in 2009 and has since changed again into random chat site morphed together with a social network. It used to have much more traffic, but since their latest changes to the website, Camsurf has seen their traffic plummet. It is still a popular destination for worldwide users. It seems Camsurf is trying to be more like Cam4 and Omegle by adding a community aspect to the site such as saving favorites and profiles.
The site has done something interesting lately by adding a webcam community where not only you can play Chatroulette, but you can also browse live shows. So when you start your cam on Chatroulette, it also streams it so many users can watch you. It's a cool idea, but we think it is also a concern because it streams your footage publically.
Camsurf used to be the number one Chatroulette alternative site and has seen its traffic drop dramatically since its peak about a couple of years ago. It still ranks in the top 100k in Alexa and is probably is still in the top 10 busiest sites for random chat.
The site is also plagued with advertising for other cam sites and it is about time they hired some moderators to handle the situation. Also, Camsurf is very often down and hasn't been a dependable site for random video chat lately ever since they made all these changes and added a community.
